HOUSING DEVELOPMENT :: THE AMERICAN COTTAGE COMPANY
One of our recent housing development projects was the design of three home styles for Lisciotti Development’s newest residential neighborhood in Leominster, MA. Meant to evoke the heart of American cottage architecture and to engage with the farming past and present of this northern Massachusetts area, the Baldwin Cottage, Cortland Cottage, and McIntosh offer new homeowners, young families, or empty nesters a sense of community with their welcoming covered porches and street-friendly designs.
While hearkening back to a simpler past, these homes are designed for twenty-first century living, with their energy efficient floor plans, open and flexible layouts, and light-infused spaces. Though compact and charming in their simplicity, these cottages are filled with detail and character. The Cortland stands proud and solid with its single front gable, side dormer, and cupola-topped garage. The Baldwin presents a more faceted façade, with two eaves extending over the central gable. The multi-tiered McIntosh has a steeply pitched roof that extends over the porch, with a side gable and first floor bank of windows under an eave, optimizing light and exposure to the landscape on the side.
We were committed to using local and sustainable materials in these designs and Lisciotti Development was committed to building these cottages using high-quality American-made materials whenever possible.
